What’s your favorite coffee in Kansas City? | Graphic by 6AM City
With the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments just around the corner, we’re joining the fun of bracket competitions with a faceoff of our own.

Last year, you helped us name the best brewery: City Barrel. This year, we asked you to share your favorite coffee shops in Kansas City. Now — thanks to you and the help of a random generator we have the official lineup for our bracket.

Who’s in the running

Going head-to-head in the first round are:
  • Filling Station and Black Dog Coffeehouse | Get your morning tune-up at coffee garage Filling Station, or settle in for a cozy cup at Black Dog’s duo coffee + bakery spot.
  • Messenger on Grand and Café Cà Phê | Messenger Coffee Co.'s three-story Grand Ave. digs boasts local roasting + downtown skyline views, while Café Cà Phê serves up Vietnamese coffee in the heart of historic Columbus Park.
  • Café Corazón and Blip Roasters | Café Corazón is a Latino + Indigenous family-owned business known for local roasts and yerba mate, while Blip Roasters is a West Bottoms haunt serving civilians and cyclists alike.
  • Oddly Correct and Rochester Brewing and Roasting | Experience Oddly Correct’s out-of-the-box coffee creations, or stop by one of Rochester’s two locations for the in-house roaster’s coffee shop and taproom.

How it works

Beginning today, we will host several voting rounds within our newsletters and social channels to determine Kansas City’s best coffee shop. Who moves on is up to you. Vote for your favorites, and the java joint with more votes moves on. Simple as that. We’ll go until we have a champion, which will be announced in our Monday, March 25 newsletter. You will be able to vote once per round.

How to participate

Vote for the coffee shop you’d like to see advance to round two using this poll. You can vote for all four spots or as little as one. Once we count all the votes, we’ll share an updated bracket and new poll in an upcoming newsletter.

There’s no smoking in the cabin, but it’s a different story on the ground at KCI.

Concourse B’s Made for KC BBQ Experience welcomed its newest champions: Oak Grove’s O.G. Bandits, the winners of the second annual Made for Kansas City BBQ Championship.

The professional pit bosses have waited since last June to enjoy the winning perks, which include a $25,000 grand prize + one-year licensing opportunity in the airport’s 8,000-sqft competition barbecue-themed restaurant. Last year’s inaugural winner, Smoke ‘n Magic, passed the torch after opening alongside the new terminal in 2023.

Jet-setting for spring break soon? You can stop by the new space featuring favorites from O.G. Bandits’ classic menu from now until next spring.
