If you want to help your neighbors in need
Shelter KC | This nonprofit serves people experiencing homelessness. It’s currently looking for volunteers for its Christmas at the Crossroads event.
Johnson County Christmas Bureau | This county-wide agency helps families experiencing poverty by providing basic needs + holiday toys.
If you want to feed your community
The Prospect KC | Five initiatives under The Prospect’s umbrella serve Kansas City’s Eastside: Culinary Job Training, Kitchen Confidence, Real Food for Real People, Stir the Pot, and Making a Chef. Cooks, gardeners, and all helpful hands are welcome.
Kansas City Community Kitchen | NourishKC’s community kitchen serves meals to anyone at no cost, every Monday through Friday, 11 a.m.–2 p.m., including holidays and during bad weather.
If you’re passionate about supporting local community groups
Kansas City Center for Inclusion | As a safe space and all-inclusive resource center for Kansas City’s LGBTQIA+ communities, KCCI volunteers help with everything from running events, to outreach, to social media marketing.
Della Lamb | This nonprofit provides food for Thanksgiving + gifts for Christmas with Operation Holidays, serving thousands of Kansas Citians.

Oasis-KCs Home for Black Professionals | Thursday, Nov. 30 | 4-7 p.m. | Privee Restaurant and Lounge, 700 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, KS | Free | A curated and cultured event for the like-minded, Black business professionals in the KC Metro.
Shawnee’s Gum Springs Park will reopen soon after $3.7 million in renovations. The money went towards installation of a new eight-foot wide concrete walking path, a new dugout boxes for its four baseball fields, and a 30-ft-tall hot air balloon play structure dubbed “Lunia.” (Kansas City Star)

Sporting KC’s miracle run was ended by Houston Dynamo at Sunday’s Western Conference Semifinals. After defeating St. Louis City in the wild card round, Sporting lost 1-0 in its final game of the 2023 season. (KMBC)
Development
The 14-court Plaza Tennis Center (5757 Mill Creek Pkwy.) is being considered for redevelopment. No plans have been finalized, but officials and developers have suggested new residential and mixed-use projects. The center would potentially move to a nearby rooftop. (FOX4)

Two franchise records — Sunday’s win against the Raiders made Andy Reid the winningest coach in Chiefs history with 125 games (and counting), and Travis Kelce now has the most career receiving yards for KC, with more than 11,000. (FOX4)
Kansas Citians
Dynasty 11U, a little league football team in the metro, qualified for the national championship in Panama City, FL. Now, they’re seeking donations and sponsorships to make the flight. (KCTV5)
Announced
Alan Kneeland, co-owner of The Combine (2999 Troost Ave.), will be the first Black president of the Kansas City Restaurant Association. He plans to expand youth outreach in the urban core, as well connecting existing businesses with new technology. (Kansas City Star)

Three Johnson County schools took home state football titles Saturday. Gardner-Edgerton won its game in double overtime, Mill Valley scored 62 points on Kapaun Mt. Carmel, and Aquinas coach Randy Dreiling tied a state record with nine titles under this leadership. (Shawnee Mission Post)
