A new mixed-use project has eyes set on downtown KC, just a few blocks from the T-Mobile Center. Local developer Copaken Brooks is planning a $300 million project with 700 residential units and 20,000 sqft of retail space southeast of 12th and McGee Streets. A timeline is TBD. Think: Sports bar but fancy. A new upscale sports bar concept called Revel Sports Tavern is coming to Johnson County. The spot — at 7300 W. 119th St., Overland Park, KS — is going for a stylish look with high-end service centered around one of Kansas City’s favorite things: sports. It aims for an October opening. Transit
Boat edition. This week, the Port KC board discovered a river cruise operator is interested in making Kansas City a port of call as part of a potential expansion to the Missouri River. The river cruise currently operates on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. The potential project would add yet another tourist attraction to the Berkley Riverfront. (CityScene KC)

Health Forward Foundation is awarding $4.9 million in grants to 33 local nonprofit organizations that advance civic engagement and advocacy coalitions. Organizations receiving grant money include groups like ACLU Foundation of Kansas, El Centro, and LeadMO Action.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, Oct. 4 — it’s National Taco Day. Even better, members of the KCK Taco Trail can get free tacos on the holiday. Tarahumaras and A & J’s Molcajete are participating, all you need to do is sign up before the big day to get your free bites.
