For richer or pour over, Kansas City’s coffee shops are what keep us going in the morning.

The City of Fountains has no shortage of masterful baristas, aromatic roasts, and foamy lattes. But if you’re having trouble deciding on a spot, gather some brews clues with our guide to some of the best coffee shops in KC.

Pro tip: If you need to refine your order, review the different kinds of coffee before stepping up to the counter.

Espresso yourself

Messenger Coffee, various locations | Messenger has a farm-to-direct relationship, roasting the beans right here in the 816.

Broadway Cafe and Roasting Company, various locations | This spot is running over 30 years strong with beans available for purchase in store + online.

Parisi Coffee, various locations | Fun fact: Parisi owns and operates one of the largest green coffee storage + coffee roasting facilities in the Midwest.

Best bites

Mildred’s, two locations | The coffee feels like an added perk — with a stacked breakfast + lunch menu, and even a cocktail list for brunch.

Mother Earth Coffee Co., 3504 Gillham Rd., KCMO | Editor Bella recommends a BBQ Chicken Pita to accompany your coffee of choice.

Filling Station, various locations | From breakfast sandwiches to lunch bites to pastries, this station will fill you up with high quality eats.

Perfect for a date

Thou Mayest, various locations | The River Quay location is perfect for a day to night date thanks to the late hours, or head to the Nelson-Atkins location for a coffee + museum date.

Front Range Coffee House, various locations | The cozy cabin vibes make this ideal for a night out with your crush.

Nirvana Coffee Bar and Game Lounge, 10707 E. Winner Rd., Independence, MO | Challenge your partner to a round of pool or try a new board game while sipping on a drink of choice.
