Did you know? About one in eight US men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. It’s the second leading cause of cancer death in men in the US. But when it’s detected and diagnosed early, it is one of the most curable cancers.
Comprised of the nation’s leading experts on prostate cancer, the center’s specialists work together to offer the most advanced prostate cancer care for improved outcomes and quality of life.
So, what does that look like? We’re glad you asked.
A world-renowned team of experts
Because of prostate cancer’s complexities, it can easily be missed or misdiagnosed, especially by a physician who might not specifically specialize in it. But when a team is subspecialized (read: concentrated on one disease only), they are able to focus only on you.
With the center’s multidisciplinary, fully subspecialized prostate cancer team of urologic, radiation, and medical oncologists, as well as radiologists and pathologists, patients receive the best possible care and can achieve the best outcomes.
When we detect prostate cancer early, treatment can result in a cure for up to 90% of men.

Innovative, comprehensive treatment options
The University of Kansas Cancer Center offers every standard treatment option for every stage of prostate cancer. Some of the most innovative treatment options are offered to Kansans, including:
Stereotactic body radiation therapy (a one-week treatment for early prostate cancer)
Clinical Trials for any stage
Genomic testing, to determine which treatment would be most beneficial to you
Pluvicto for metastatic disease
Salvage treatment options for the 30-40% of men who have their cancer return at some point after treatment
Bonus:Dr. Will Parker has performed more robotic prostatectomies (1000+) than anyone in our region. And Dr. Ronald Chen, chair of radiation oncology, is one of the nation’s leading experts in prostate cancer. He’s written textbooks on prostate cancer and on stereotactic body radiotherapy.

It’s getting hot in here. After hitting triple digits just seven days into summer, you’re probably wondering what the rest of the season has in store. Don’t sweat it, we found out for you.
High temps + humidity
As summer temperatures swell, Farmer’s Almanac predicts we’ll see plenty of showers, too. Next week will hover around the high 80s + low 90s, with a few chances of rain seeping through. That’s ~10º hotter than average summer temperatures. Slightly above average temperatures are consistent over the next three months, according to the National Weather Service.
As for relative humidity, it averages ∼66% in July — a trend that carries on through September.
We’re in the orange zone, predicting slightly hotter temperatures. At least we aren’t in the red.

Fast facts:
The hottest summer day recorded for KC was August 13, 1936 when temperatures reached a sweltering 113º.
KC has only reached 100º on 81 out of the 136 years on record.
It’s Fri-yay. I’m celebrating by dancing at the Vine Street Brewing Co. grand opening.
If you’re coming — or going anywhere outside — make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen. It’s supposed to reach 99° today! Can’t ruin that weekend with a sunburn.
