The dog days of summer are hot on our tails — the temperatures are rising, and the outdoors are calling. Enter: The Shops of Prairie Village.
This food, bev, and shopping destination is located on Mission Road between Tomahawk Road + 71st Street. If you’re looking for something to do this summer, consider this your one-stop shop for scrumptious meals, quaint outdoor seating, and fun programming — for you, your family, and even your pet.
We recently took our dog, Ollie, to lunch, dessert, and a bit of shopping. Here’s what we tried and how you can Try This.
What we tried:
Scratch Gourmet Kitchen has a great selection of enticing entrees — and each is paired with a wine from the restaurant’s extensive list. We tried the pan-seared salmon with charred asparagus, paired with a Pinot blanc from Germany. Ollie enjoyed a bowl of water and some shade.
First of all, Dolce Bakery’s outdoor area whisked us away to a garden paradise (read: the perfect spot for pictures with the pup). We ordered a mini flourless chocolate torte from the display case, and the clerk treated us to a peanut butter dog treat, too. Needless to say, Ollie was over the moon.

Summer is here, which means so too is aperol spritz season. Enjoy as many as you’d like (without regretting it the next day) when you make yours with Ritual Zero Proof’s aperitif alternative — an alcohol-free take on the Italian classic. Bonus: Use it to make the summery aperitif sour.*

There’s nothing like West 39th Street in the summertime. This weekend, I swung by Dragonfly Tea Zone for the Lavendar Milk bubble tea. Spoiler alert: it was delicious.
