With the holiday season over, it’s time to pull your head out of the snow and take a look at the new changes going into effect this year.

Here’s a quick summary of some of the biggest developments.

Missouri

  • Missouri’s minimum wage is increasing from $12 to $12.30 per hour.
  • Businesses that pay for employees’ continued education or that hire interns and pay them at least minimum wage can get a $1,500 tax break .

Kansas

  • Grocery taxes have officially decreased from 4% to 2%.
  • School choice — where parents can enroll their children in any public school they desire as long as it has space — goes live this June. (Watch our newsletter for details on how this works.)
