This photo is from our friends in North Carolina — because you can find these pantries nationwide — but you get the idea. | Photo by RALtoday
You’ve heard of little free libraries — but what about their less multitudinous counterpart? The “Mini Pantry Movement” is spread across the country in much the same way, little oases inviting people to give what they can and take what they need.
There are nine listed such pantries in the KC metro area, many of them at churches. Some, like the little free pantry at Calvary Lutheran Church & School in KCMO or the Mutual Aid Box in KCK, include other items like hygiene products, water, and “community resources.”
Despite their different names and offerings, each has the same aim — offer free support to neighbors who need it.
The fun doesn’t have to end here. After reading the newsletter, head over to our games page. Games refresh with new challenges every day at 6 a.m. from crossword puzzle to Sudoku to themed word search.
If you love the idea of a little free pantry (scroll up for details) and, like me, you can remember the ‘90s, you might also enjoy the concept of Free Blockbuster. It’s exactly what you’re picturing.
There are only two locations in the KC area — though one is bizarrely “inside a private office.” (Kinda defeats the purpose, if you ask us.)
Visit the public alternative at 4104 Wyoming St., KCMO, or start your own.
