News Notes

Transit

All aboard. The Main Street Extension rolls out Friday, Oct. 24 with a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m. at the Plaza Transit Center. The party continues at its new UMKC stop (5-9 p.m.) with bands, bites + vendors, then shifts Saturday to Murray Davis Park (12-9 p.m.) for family fun with Stone Lion Puppets and the Pythons drill team. (KSHB41)

Community

ShelterKC is sounding the alarm for one of its most-needed, least-donated items: new underwear. Donations can be dropped off at the Men’s Center (1520 Cherry St.) or shipped via its online portal to help KC’s unhoused neighbors.

Development

Major OP office campus Corporate Woods is set to become a mixed-use development, following the sale of 43-acres of undeveloped land. A new master plan is said to involve “new residential, retail, dining, civic, and recreational offerings, seamlessly integrated with the existing office spaces,” as well as a new vision for its extensive trail system. (KCBJ)

Sports

ICYMI, the Royals are officially out of playoff contention after the Cleveland Guardians clinched the final spot against the Tigers. Meanwhile, the Chiefs snapped their early losing streak, and off the field, Travis Kelce just dropped a pop-up collab with American Eagle. (Kansas CIty Star)

The Wrap

As someone who lives near the new Main Street Extension, I’m more than “Ready to Ride” — even if it means feeling like a sardine while everyone flocks to try it out. You can bet I’ll also be snagging one of those sweet new KCAI student-designed posters to mark the occasion.
