News Notes

Sports

The KC Current are going big — again. Just approved: a new 2,000-person stadium near their Riverside training complex, complete with a 17,000-sqft performance center, locker rooms, indoor/outdoor fields, and a player lounge. It’s the next chapter in their sports empire, just further along the water. See the renderings. (KCBJ)

Try This

Want to get to know you neighbors a little better? North Kansas City is building community by subsidizing local block parties with grants up to $400. Start party planning and submit an application to be reimbursed for expenses like food, paper goods, and entertainment. (Kansas City Star)

Development

Caviar martinis, rooftop lounges, bottle service. The Palm Tree Club, a nightlife concept co-founded by DJ Kygo, is bringing its glitzy vibes to the Power & Light District. It’s taking over the former Drunken Fish space with an 11,000-sqft renovation, set to open this fall. Miami who? (Startland News)

Eat

Nour’s just opened a new 39th Street home, offering Lebanese eats in a beautifully designed space honoring the owner’s late daughter. Next to debut: Veil Café in the Garment District, a coffee shop inspired by the owner’s travels through Mexico — think global flavors, KC charm. (Kansas City Star)

Announced

The Royals’ stadium saga continues — and City Manager Mario Vasquez is backing Washington Square Park as the site of choice. With Missouri lawmakers now debating a stadium funding bill in an on-going Jeff City special session, an official decision is expected within weeks. (Kansas City Star + KCTV5)

The Wrap

My top library aisle will always be the cookbooks — with the Plaza Branch’s board game exchange and the Central Branch’s Missouri Valley Special Collections rounding out my personal podium.

But there’s a new dark horse in the race: KCKPL’s South Branch, where you can borrow from a cake pan exchange featuring 45+ whimsical shapes. It’s the perfect match for my current (and admittedly late) obsession with Alison Roman’s “Sweet Enough” — now my go-to for dinner party desserts.
