News Notes

Development

Despite some neighborhood concerns, the Overland Park Planning Commission gave the thumbs-up to rezone a former fire station lot at 159th + Metcalf. If City Council green-lights it come May, expect 930+ multi-family units, 23,000 sqft of commercial space, and new public hangout spots. (Johnson County Post)

Real Estate

The biannual Parade of Homes returns Saturday, April 26, showing off ~300 newly built properties across six metro counties. Admission? Totally free. It’s also the second-largest home tour in the country — so yeah, bring comfy shoes. (KCBJ)

From 2,000 sqft to 16,000: Holy Brunch KC is moving into the old Westport Ale House space, bringing big energy with it. The summer opening will serve up TikTok-worthy dishes across three zones: a family-friendly floor, VIP all-you-can-eat basement, and rooftop seating for sunny sips. (Startland News)

Weather

Guess who’s back? Former local weather fave Gary Lezak is returning to KSHB — virtually. Starting Monday, April 14 at 4:30 a.m., he’ll Zoom in for a 12-week meteorological encore, forecasting from Colorado to KC living rooms. (Kansas City Star)
Billionaire watch: There are 11 of them in Kansas and Missouri, and two live right in Leawood. Garmin co-founder Min Kao’s family ($6.9B) and Lamar Hunt Jr.'s family ($1.6B) top the list of local mega-wealth. (Kansas City Star)

The Wrap

My first session of Community Engagement University kicked off last night with insights from the Assistant to the City Manager, municipal attorneys, and a behind-the-scenes City Hall tour. The standout moment? A sunset visit to the 30th Floor Observation Deck — giving total “Sleepless in Seattle” vibes, IMO.
