The KC Streetcar Main Street Extension is inching toward completion, but we’re already exploring the new stops. Next up: Art Museums, located on 45th + Main streets. Check out some history and what you can see, do, and taste within ~15 minutes of this stop.
History
If you ride back in history, this section of Kansas City was serviced by its initial trolley + streetcar system that operated from 1870 to 1957. It was located on Route 56, aka Country Club Line, which was developed and made electric in the early 20th century.
Country Club Line was one of the last three streetcar routes to remain operational as cars rose in popularity, having its final run on June 23, 1957. That same year, the restaurant that sat at 45th + Main streets — hometown icon the Wish-Bone — was sold to the Lipton Company, along with its famous salad dressing.

Navigating today’s chaotic social media landscape, 6AM City offers advertisers a rare refuge of brand safety. While platforms like Meta and X (formerly Twitter) loosen moderation, creating volatility for businesses and marketers alike, 6AM City has stayed committed to neutral, politics-free, brand safe reporting since 2016.
By curating hyperlocal content, free from divisive topics, we provide an environment where advertisers can thrive without compromising their brand. Advertise confidently with us — where “Doing. Positive. Service.” guides every decision.
Local developer VanTrust Real Estate LLC filed plans to build a 60-unit apartment complex on Linwood Boulevard at the former site of McGilley Memorial Chapel-Midtown. The project will add 10 buildings close to the streetcar extension. The City Plan Commission is expected to review the plans in April. (Kansas City Business Journal)
Transit
The KC Streetcar’s next stops could be to 18th + Vine and Southwest Boulevard. The KC Streetcar Authority has already discussed future plans to serve those areas, but it’s not official yet. New lines won’t be put into motion until the Main Street and Riverfront extensions are completed. (KSHB)
Closed
Tortilla Flats sizzled its final fajita on Friday. The Northland Mexican restaurant closed after 35 years in business, having served KCMO since 1990. Its closure is attributed to declining sales. (The Kansas City Star)
Coming Soon
Switchyards “neighborhood work club” announced it’s expanding to Kansas City — think co-working space meets cafe. The opening is slated for next month, according to the CEO. No word yet on the exact location, but you can sign up to receive membership updates.

I’ve been jamming to Lorde’s “Royals” for over a decade, but I only recently learned it was inspired by George Brett + the Kansas City Royals. I can’t say this makes perfect sense when I listen to the lyrics, but I love the local lore.
