News Notes

Civic

Jackson County’s $70 million in leftover ARPA funds is still up for grabs... and still set to expire in T-12 days. Downtown courthouse upgrades, grants to local nonprofits, county employee salaries, and infrastructure projects have all been debated, but none have survived the legislature yet. (Kansas City Star)

Eat

Dig in, Kansas City. Two new international eateries are coming to the metro: Irish pub Conroy’s Public House and American-Indian-Mediterranean fusion Gaia Masala & Burger. The former is already open daily at 6995 W. 151st St., while the latter will open in the former Kobi-Q spot at 425 Westport Rd. though no date has been announced. (Johnson County Post + KCBJ)

Sports

It’s still up in the air whether Patrick Mahomes will play in this Saturday’s home game against the Houston Texans. The QB’s high-ankle sprain has not kept him from participating in practice this week, promising he’ll “push to play” in the team’s third to last game before playoffs. (FOX4)

Watch

Back to back. Fans of the recently-released Taylor Swift + Travis Kelce-inspired Hallmark flick, “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” have another reason to rejoice this season. The network has announced an extended cut of the 90-minute movie, set to premiere at 7 p.m. CST on Friday, Dec. 20. (Kansas City Star)

Development

The City of Merriam is in the market for some serious real estate, and its got its eye on the former Antioch Library branch. Its city council has approved a $4 million contract to buy the property — though plans for the site are still unclear. (Johnson County Post)

Closing

One of Kansas City’s best spots for lunches under $10 is closing after 66 years in the Historic Northeast. Lease disagreements + lasting COVID-19 losses spell the end of Harold’s Drive-In at 1337 Admiral Blvd., whose last day serving classics like pork tenderloin and Italian steak sandwiches will be Tuesday, Dec. 31.
