News Notes

Development

An event venue and transportation museum — those are the latest plans for the former Kansas City National Guard Armory near 36th and Main. Funding and tax incentives have been secured by its developers, who expect construction to wrap by mid-2026. (KCBJ)

Open

You don’t need to book a night at the recently debuted Origin Hotel Kansas City to enjoy its hot new amenities. Our favorite? The Americana-inspired Show Pony, outfitted with indoor-outdoor seating and a menu full of locally sourced ingredients, like the Salt Creek smoked short rib. (Kansas City Star)

Kansas Citians

And the award goes to... Peggy and Terry Dunn, the 2024 Kansas Citians of the Year. The former Leawood mayor and CEO of JE Dunn Construction, respectively, were honored as a couple for their community stewardship efforts at the KC Chamber’s annual dinner last week. (Startland News)

Read

After its building was listed for sale this fall, Seven Stories bookshop needed a new space fast. Now its 14-year-old owner is making the move to 12119 Johnson Dr. this month, nearly tripling the store’s size. More inventory + plans to offer food and drink options are in the works. (Johnson County Post)

Eat

Tired of turkey? Put down the leftover sandwiches and taste test any of Kansas City’s must-try chicken wings. Not on the list, but No. 1 in KCtoday’s heart is Chingu’s gochujang-garlic Korean Fried Chicken. (KCUR)

History

This is the last call for submissions to our historical marker contest. Submit your nominations by this Tuesday, Dec. 3. for a chance to be featured on our map — and maybe even have your location officially recognized. Make a submission.
