We asked, and you answered: The key to impressing guests is “setting the perfect vibe.” Before welcoming family and friends into your home this holiday season, consider these five tips to enhance the vibe in your spaces — at up to 80% off.

Yes, Black Friday came early. Now until Sunday, Dec. 1, you can snag the lowest prices of the year during Wayfair’s extended Black Friday sale. Psst... Check back on Dec. 2 for Cyber Monday deals, too.

Here’s what we recommend checking off your list:

1. Set the scene with seasonal decor

When your guests arrive, greet them with festive holiday decorations like these sparkling outdoor lights and this illuminated pine cone garland. It’s giving classy winter wonderland.

2. Upgrade the guest bedroom

If your old mattress lives in your spare room, it may be time for an upgrade. While you’re at it, these extra-soft luxury sheets and this chic upholstered bed were designed to wow.

Pro tip: Warm lighting makes for an extra-cozy atmosphere. These dimmable Edison light bulbs will do the trick.

3. Minimize clutter

Storage doesn’t have to be an eyesore. You can tuck away miscellaneous items (think: books and games) in this extendable coffee table and store shoes in this natural rattan shoe storage cabinet that always seems to be trending online.

4. Boost the bathrooms

A few simple changes will elevate any bathroom. Spruce up your linen collection with a new set of fluffy towels, and designate a mindful space to store them.

Pro tip: Swapping out the bathroom mirror can go a long way, and this modern corner-hang mirror is straightforward to install.

5. Don’t skimp on seating

It’s important that your guests have somewhere comfortable (and stylish) to sit. We think this best-selling linen accent chair or vintage-inspired velvet sofa would help pull together a living room. You could even go all-out with this contemporary massage recliner.

News Notes

Civic

That’s a wrap on track work for KC Streetcar’s Main Street Extension. The final stretch of rail has been fully installed after two years of construction — meaning we’re another major milestone closer to exploring its eight new stops. Celebrate alongside the mayor and other city officials at a community party on Monday, Dec. 2.

Development

One of the last vacant lots near Lenexa’s City Center will soon become Ross Canyon, a 44-acre multifamily residential project. City council members unanimously approved plans for 374 apartments and 95 townhomes off 93rd Street, between Mill Creek Road + Renner Boulevard. Construction is expected to begin in March. The Wrap

Today’s edition by:

Madison-McMillen.png
While I love KC barbecue as much as the next Midwesterner, I can’t help but wish our “No Coast” existence included a bit more fresh seafood. That’s why I can’t wait to dive into Varsity Club’s + Disco Burger’s Guiness and Oysters event on Sunday — a welcome treat after a few too many leftover turkey sandwiches.

Answered

Whether it’s founders or flip-switchers, we can’t fool KCtoday readers.

Our two most recent questions received well over 1,000 responses combined, some of our highest numbers ever — but it seems you all just came to gloat.

A majority of readers, ~60%, showed their local know-how and answered each correctly:

Q: “Which celebrity has not been a flip-switcher at the Plaza Lighting Ceremony?”
A: Patrick Mahomes (though we’re not counting the reigning Super Bowl MVP out for next year)

Q: “Which two Kansas City institutions were founded by the same person?”
A: The Kansas City Star + the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, both founded fully or in-part by turn of the century political + publishing leader William Rockhill Nelson.
