West 39th Street has everything you need to spend a day in one place — from breakfast to shopping to post-dinner drinks. The district can be found precisely along the western state line divide of Missouri and Kansas, and neighbors the KU Medical Center campus.

Let’s dive into the itinerary.

Rise and shine

  • Chow down on a bagel of your choice from Meshuggah Bagels and get creative with schmear options like “Dirty Martini” and “Oreo Cheesecake.”
  • Taste test Rebel Coffee’s fall menu or grab a cup from OurHouse KC (they offer lunch + dinner too).
  • Get some fresh air and stroll around the historic Volker neighborhood, complete with architectural gems like the Roselawn estate.

Brunch or lunch

  • Order a KC Burrito at Tiki Taco‘s sidewalk window or fill up on morning margs at the (recently reopened) Drunken Worm.
  • Customize your own lunchtime pizza with late night staple Artègo’s new weekend hours.
  • Make a stop at Aladdin Cafe, serving up authentic Mediterranean cuisine since 1999.

Shop ‘til you drop

It’s what’s for dinner

  • Enjoy a farm-to-table meal at Room 39.
  • Feast at Fric and Frac — the Jalapeno Burger is a must-try.
  • For our barbecue lovers, Q39 is a KC staple. Get the wings, trust us.

News Notes
Drink
  • It’s 5 o’clock somewhere. Live out your tropical vay-cay dreams at two new metro bars — Crossroads’ Kon Tiki and Strawberry Hill’s Blue Palm Tiki. Both held their official grand openings last weekend, and are ready to take on any local tourists.
Ranked
  • Kansas City is now tied as the country’s No. 1 hottest housing market, according to U.S. News & World Report. Criteria included cities’ housing demand, housing supply, and financial health — leaving both Austin, TX (looking at you ATXtoday) and KCMO with a 72.8 out of 100 score.
Community
  • Does the phrase “community improvement district” ring a bell? Well it should. The newest metro CID has been approved for the Northland’s Tiffany Springs neighborhood, imposing a 1% sales tax on future businesses in the area. Over the next 27 years, the CID is expected to reimburse $6.3 million in public infrastructure costs. (KCBJ)
Active
  • Mix up your wellness routine with Bodybar Pilates, Lenexa’s newest fitness studio (12825 W. 87th St.). Situated next to Blackdog Coffeehouse, it will offer 40-50 minute classes focusing on strength, posture, and cardio. While an opening date is TBA, you can visit its two other metro locations in OP + KCMO . (Johnson County Post)
Legacy
Finance
  • Did you know some credit cards can actually help you get out of debt faster? (It sounds wild, but it’s true.) The secret: Find a credit card with a “0% intro APR” period for balance transfers. These are hands down some of the best.*
Wellness
  • One scoop of NativePath Hydrate = increased energy, muscle strength, and bladder function. Enjoy 44% and free shipping, plus a free gift with purchase.*
