Project launches to connect the Legends to Independence

It’s happening. On Tuesday, KS + MO leaders announced the launch of their joint venture: the Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor. That’s a mouthful — but what is it?
Essentially, this project will connect the 24-mile stretch between Independence, Sugar Creek, KCK, and the Legends Outlets with clean transportation like electric buses and bicycle + pedestrian routes.
But the vision goes beyond just redesigning transportation. Goals for the new corridor also include:
Championing energy-efficient housing
Adding area-wide broadband
Workforce training for green stormwater infrastructure
All of the groundwork for the corridor is scheduled to happen across three phases.
Phase one — Positioning | 2024-2025
Just launched, this phase is for ironing out concepts by getting community input + securing more investors.
Phase two — Accelerating | 2025-2026
This is when we’ll start seeing some changes as the team pours into local projects.
Phase three — Demonstrating | 2026-2027
Let’s show the world what KC can do. During this phase, the team will use the corridor as a case study, modeling what the future of the US could be.
Currently, ~90,000 people live across the 24-mile stretch. Leaders hope that the Bi-State Sustainable Reinvestment Corridor improves their lives wholistically — i.e. providing better access to childcare, allowing people to work further from home — while cleaning up the way KC commutes.

Just a little piece of my (KC) heart. Following this year’s auction of the 3D art sculptures, the Parade of Hearts will take a one-year hiatus and return in 2026 with a new shape. We had cows, we had hearts… wonder what the next shape will be.

How to build a backyard chicken coop in Kansas City
No yolk, chicks dig Kansas City... okay, I’ll see myself out. | Photo via Pexels, by Matthis Volquardsen
Kansas City might run on burnt ends and pulled pork, but our poultry is certainly no laughing stock.
Many metro cities have ordinances allowing residents to keep coops — including Overland Park, Liberty, Lee’s Summit, and KCMO — but the state of Missouri didn’t think that was enough.
Starting on Wednesday, Aug. 28, Missouri homeowner associations (HOAs) wil be banned from banning backyard chickens. Even if it’s expressly written in the HOA bylaws, this new law will supersede your HOA in the pecking order.

This best-selling stainless steel 7-in-1 Instant Pot. It’s a classic for a reason — and you can use this versatile, customizable kitchen appliance to pressure cook, slow cook, sauté, steam and warm up your meals with easy dishwasher-safe clean up.
I’m not much of a chicken chick but I do have the dream of owning a little farm someday.
Old Mc’Charm would have a miniature horse, goats, a highland cow, and valais blacknose sheep. My mini aussie (Marceline the Snuggle Queen) would herd them, my rescue dog (Grayce May) would be their loving protector, and I would bake all day + tend to my crops.
