New night club, In The Lowest Ferns, opens in West Bottoms

Kansas City is soaked with bars, breweries, and barbecue joints, but low-key lounges make up just a sprinkle of its nightlife. That’s why locals have been excited for the opening of In The Lowest Ferns, a swanky new spot nestled in the West Bottoms.

The night club is the latest creation of local production company Nomada. You may or may not know of them, but you’ve definitely seen their work. That military tent full of music in the Crossroads? Nomada. That music video for A$AP Rocky that was filmed in KC? It, too, was Nomada’s doing.

DJ won’t you play this girl a love song? That’s probably what’s being said here.

In The Lowest Ferns is found at 1105 Hickory St., KCMO in what looks like an abandoned garage — step inside and you’ll find anything but.

Instead, you’ll move through a dark vibey night club that is accented with red lights, thick clouds of scented incense, and surrounded by, you guessed it, ferns.
And it is a lounge, so of course there’s plenty of spots to sit, sip and brood.

At the club’s center is a massive dance floor, where both local and traveling DJs are scheduled to turn vinyls on a rotating basis.

Current ticket prices are set at $24.93. Follow In The Lowest Ferns to learn more.

From the editor
I love reading and am very Type A, which means I will be competing in (and winning) the library’s Winter Reading Challenge.

As I dreamed about sipping coffee from my new championship mug I started wondering — what books are you all reading? What books should I be reading? Let me know so I can add them to my reading list.
