Calling all book worms. The Kansas City Public Library, Missouri Humanities, and the Missouri Center for the Book are partnering up to host the inaugural Heartland Book Festival.
The fest is a weekend-long event featuring keynote speakers, activities, and learning opportunities for various ages and interest groups. Let’s turn the page and see what the festival has in store.

When: Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Friday is at Folly Theater and Saturday is at the Central Library branch (14 W. 10th St.)

Intro to Tarot Reading | Saturday, Oct. 7 | 12-1:30 p.m. | Understand foundational history and tools to begin working with Tarot cards.
Telling Our Stories Writing Workshop | Saturday, Oct. 7 | Novice and experienced writers are welcome to explore how micro-memories can add up to tell a bigger story of one’s life, the people in it, and its experiences.

Wednesday, Sept. 27
Garment District Grooves: After Hours | Wednesday, Sept. 27 | 5:30-7 p.m. | Garment District Place, 8th & Bank St., Kansas City, MO | Free entry | Enjoy an after hours version of the concert series, featuring the KC-based band Sisters & Strings.
An eventful Sunday. The Chiefs beat the Bears 41-10 yesterday, adding a dominating win to the season record. This game marked Andy Reid’s 271st win as a NFL head coach — making him the No. 4 in history for wins. Plus, Taylor Swift was in attendance.
Festival
Prepare to giggle. The 2nd annual Fountain City Comedy Festival is returning on Thursday, Oct.5-Saturday, Oct. 7. This fest is independently run by five local comedians in an entirely grassroots operation that sources everything from other local creators. Ticket prices vary.
Cause
The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) awarded a $2,500 grant to The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures in support of the Marvelous Museum Manipulatives: K-12 Teacher Kits project. Each project kit includes supplies and instructions + connects to elements of social studies.
