McGuire’s Tavern got a makeover. Located at 9148 Santa Fe Dr., Overland Park, KS, the bar is now known as Becks Place. Many menu items remain the same, but there are some additions — like a maple bourbon chicken sandwich, carrot cake, and a salted caramel brownie. (Shawnee Mission Post)

The annual Outer Reaches music fest will be Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14. The festival will be hosted at recordBar (1520 Grand Blvd., KCMO). Headliners include Nigerien artist Bombino and post-punk new wave band Sweeping Promises from Lawrence, KS.
Biz
Kansas City Sports Commission and Visit KC are opening a joint headquarters at 1111 Main St., KCMO. The two organizations believe combining offices will allow them to work in synergy as they prep for KC’s big upcoming events like the 2026 World Cup. The space is expected to be completed in early 2024.

Let’s go lefties. The Royals’ left-handed pitcher, Cole Ragans, was named the August American League Pitcher of the Month. Cole had 53 strikeouts in August, the second highest in Royals history. He is the ninth Royals pitcher and the third Royals left-handed pitcher to receive the honor.

Two local KC businesses team up to build the metro’s first worker-owned bookstore cafe

Cauldron Collective and Turnsol Books & Coffee have teamed up to bring something new to the KC Metro: a worker-owned bookstore cafe.
The new spot will be located at 1664 Broadway Blvd., KCMO.
❓ About the two businesses
Cauldron Collective is a worker-owned pop-up food concept. It started when a group of service workers decided to redesign the restaurant model.
Turnsol Books & Coffee began as an independent publisher. Former employees of a local book + record shop transformed it into a bookstore centering on good books and community.
