Editor Charmaine here. I decided to turn part of my backyard and porch into a garden since I love cooking with freshly-grown foods. As I researched how to get started, I stumbled across this amazing resource and wanted to share it with y’all.
Kansas City Community Gardens (KCCG) is a non-profit that helps you grow a garden — founded to help low income Kansas Citians with grocery bills. KCCG currently supports 670 community gardens + orchards and 2,500+ home gardeners.
Annual memberships are $2-$25 (prorated based on income level). Each membership includes:
10 packs of seeds
10 pounds of organic fertilizer
Low cost vegetable plants, berry plants, fruit trees, and gardening tools available for purchase
Ability to rent a plot
Workshops
An online knowledge bank
Low cost tiller services — they’ll even come to your home.
How cool is that? Let me know if you have any more great gardening resources.
