⚾ Before the bun
Heart of America Hot Dog Festival has been cooking since 2013. As a fundraiser for the Negro League Baseball Museum (NLBM), this franks fest relishes the sausage link between America’s fav pastime and fav ballpark food. Plus, all proceeds support the museum’s community outreach efforts.
Since 2018, 10,000+ NLBM supporters and hot dog lovers regularly attend.
♨️ Get grilling
Every year, NLBM and Hy-Vee create a themed hot dog that honors a team from the Negro Leagues. This year, the signature weiner is called “The Memphis Red Sox.” Past dogs include “The Monarch,” “The El Maestro,” “The Royal Frank,” “The Bullet Joe,” and “The Campy.”
Order the signature hot dog or build your own creations at the massive toppings station.
All activities will happen within a fenced area on Paseo Boulveard, bordered by East 18th Street and Truman Road.
Monarchs mascot Monty makes every moment marvelous.

Fun comes in all sizes — small, medium, large, and longboard. That’s what Burning Spider Stoke Company believes.
The locally-owned West 39th Street skate shop hosts free longboard lessons every second Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. — at 3218 Gladstone Blvd., KCMO. Dubbed the “Stoke Clinic,” these get-togethers started in 2014 and have beendrawing all ages ever sense.
“Our clinics teach people who have never stepped foot on a skateboard, to sponsored riders — ages 3 years old to 69,” owners Joe Burnham and Billy Angus said.
But what’s the difference between a longboard and a skateboard? Simply put, a longboard is longer. It’s modeled after a surfboard and also has bigger, softer wheels which makes riding smoother.
The next Stoke Clinic is Sunday, Aug.13. No registration is needed and all boards + safety gear are provided.
