Be the broker in Kansas City, Missouri: Streetcar Extension
What do you see in this historic property’s future? | Photo by KCtoday
It’s your turn to be the broker. The KC Streetcar is making its way down Main Street, where there are several empty commercial spaces for sale. We like to see it as an empty canvas to imagine what could come next for the Midtown, Westport, and Plaza neighborhoods — basically, daydreaming for grown-ups.
Now, we want you to be the broker: What do you envision for these properties?
With two floors and a basement, this 1905 Beaux-Arts style building is fully vacant and begging for a redeveloper. The seller is also putting the Walnut Building right behind it up for sale, an 8,000-sqft retail space connected to the first building through a courtyard in the back.
This 100-year-old building has more charm than we can handle. With exposed wood beams and lots of natural light, it’s hard to picture the space being empty for long.
Editor Bella’s suggestion: The location and natural light in this building are calling for local artists and makers. With all of that space, I am picturing an art studio and store front where makers can both work and sell their creations.
This historic property is outfitted with interior upgrades and a full liquor license — the opportunities are endless. We’re picturing an event space for weddings, corporate events, or even art galleries.
Are there hidden secrets you have about Kansas City? Things that make your life easier, save time, or make your experience living here better? We want to know them.
For example: Editor Bella likes to go get groceries during Chiefs games at halftime because it is much less busy. Don’t worry, she pauses it in case the game starts before she is back and can keep watching.

The forecast this week has put the biggest smile on my face — besides the allergy counts. I have been spending more and more time outside, which means I need to start making my way to local parks in Kansas City.
