Whether you’re a sports fanatic — or just look good in red and gold — when it comes to sports, Kansas City has no shortage of teams to support. Our city is home to some of the most loyal fans in the country — they even set the record for loudest stadium in the world.

In this guide, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about KC sports.

🏈 Kansas City Chiefs (NFL) | Est. 1963

From their iconic stadium to their recent Super Bowl appearances (and wins), the Chiefs Kingdom has been loud and proud for decades. After formerly playing in Dallas, TX as the Texans for two years in the American Football League, owner Lamar Hunt moved the team to Kansas City and the rest is history.

Team colors: Red and gold
  • It’s rumored that Lamar Hunt originally wanted Columbia blue and orange. The owner of the Houston Oilers claimed the blue before Hunt, leaving the Texans (later Chiefs) to land on the colors we see today.

Major accomplishments:
  • The team not only made appearances in three of the last four Super Bowls, but they won two (2020 and 2023).
  • Quarterback Patrick Mahomes won two regular season MVPs and two Super Bowl MVPs since his start in 2018.
  • Andy Reid is only the third head coach in NFL history with 20 playoff wins.

Kansas City Royals (MLB) | Est. 1969

The Royals were part of an MLB expansion project, growing the league from 20 to 24 teams. KC finished that year with a 69-93 record — the best of the four expansion teams starting that year.

Team colors: Royal Blue and gold
  • One of the complementary team colors is a powder blueintroduced in 1973 — and is frequently used on merchandise and jerseys.
