Who knew spooky season could be scientific? That’s where Union Station’s Science City comes in.
“We thought, let’s go a little bit bigger this year, let’s get a little more visual and really embrace the season,” chief marketing officer Michael Tritt said.
To match the enthusiasm of returning visitor numbers, Union Station offers elaborate mechanics, dramatic decorations, and even a virtual reality experience that’s making its US debut. Naturally, we tried it out.
Passengers navigate a spooky world of ghosts, pumpkins, and dark cornfields. The movement is fairly tame, and the show is suited for most kids. There are one or two minor jump scares (that I personally found fun).
Additional themed demonstrations (we saw a scientist breathe fire) will change weekly.
It all kicks off Sat., Oct. 1 with Harry Potter Day — including wand making and costume contests.
Science City is closed on Mondays. Admission is $14.95. VR runs Wednesday-Sunday + costs an additional $6.
