Hello Saturday.

July 02 2022

Home is where the heart is 🏠

Your home says a lot about you (never mind the mess in my kitchen). Where do you live? What are your favorite features? How did you decorate?

As you may know, the housing market is still crazy for buyers. There just simply aren’t enough homes to go around. Listings are going fast, so it helps to know what kind of home best fits your needs.

Enter: KCtoday’s housing personality quiz.

Can we guess your ideal home? Click or tap. | Images provided by Kansas City Homes + Huff Group

🏠 How it works

This quiz will ask you six simple questions about your ideal next home. You’ll be able to choose one answer from a selection of options, and the result will hopefully sum up your general preferences, tastes, hopes, and dreams.

Note: These results are only single-family houses. We did not include condos or rentable units, even though both of those are great options depending on your stage of life.

The fun part? You don’t need to be ready to buy a home to take the quiz. We just like playing games and looking at cool local homes — don’t you?

Listings were provided by Kansas City Homes + Huff Group. Want to get your listings on KCtoday? Send us an email.

Eat

  • SpicyOne — at 6551 W. 119th St., Overland Park — is reportedly the metro’s first Indonesian restaurant. The Asian nation boasts incredibly diverse food from as many as 1,300 different ethnic groups. Notable menu items include Rendang Spicy Beef slow-cooked in coconut milk + a stuffed pancake called Martabak Telur. 🥘 (Kansas City Magazine)

Try This

  • Want to have a roaring good time? Prehistoric Putt is open in Independence — 13907 E. US Hwy. 40. The entertainment venue includes two family-friendly courses and one that’s 21+ — perfect for pairing a beer with a Brachiosaurus. 🦕 (Kansas City Business Journal)

  • Three Waldo restaurants are collaborating on a passport called Summit Summer Crawl. Summit Grill, Bōru, and South of Summit — all on the same block of 75th Street — will award $25 to people who order an app + a drink at each location during happy hour, 3-6 p.m. (IN Kansas City)

Biz

  • Waldo gastropub District. Pour House + Kitchen is expanding into Shawnee — at the corner of Johnson Drive + Nieman Road. There’s no lease or opening date yet, but the building owner hopes renovations are complete this fall. The menu includes brunch items and summer bourbon slushes. 🍹 (Shawnee Mission Post)
  • Chicago-based GoodVets opened its second metro location — at 4041 Indian Creek Pkwy., Overland Park. The “elevated petcare” company is currently offering a free first exam. There’s already a location in Lee’s Summit, another is coming to Prairie Village.

Civic

  • Parkville begins a major street resurfacing project today — going until whenever it gets done. Streets include Spinnaker, Walnut, Cedar, Hickory, and Willow in the Riss Lake neighborhood; and Claret, Royal, and Colonial in The National neighborhood. Street parking is not allowed during construction. The city tweeted a map. 🚧

State

  • Kansas will soon provide $53 million in grants distributed to childcare workers in Kansas. Each employee may be eligible for $750-$2,500 bonuses based on hours worked. The program is funded by the federal Childcare Development Funds program. (Kansas City Star)

Watch

  • Beaming with excitement. Last week, we showed you a giant steel girder in transit across downtown, headed toward the new Buck O’Neil Bridge. Now, the Missouri Department of Transportation has an educational video illustrating the process from arrival to installation.

Community

  • Will you be my neighbor? UMKC’s Center for Neighborhoods is taking applications for its next free 12-week leadership training program. Weekly sessions start with a free dinner + teach ways to increase neighborhood vitality. The program runs from Aug. 27-Nov. 19. 🏘️ (Martin City Telegraph)

The Word

  • “Real estate resiliency.” The term coined by Opendoor to describe the dedicated approach to home ownership displayed by home buyers + sellers across the country, despite the highly competitive housing market. 🏡*

A beauty message from our sponsor

  • Want smoother, firmer skin, fewer dark spots, and a glowing complexion? According to Dr. Steven Gundry, this one secret is more effective than any topical cream after the age of 40.*

THE WRAP

Editor’s pick: Another recommendation after yesterday’s story about metro boba tea spots:

“You gotta try Fat Bee Cafe in Lee’s Summit for boba! It’s super yum!” — Reader Bonnie L.

She also mentioned that she loves the newsletter, just saying.

Missed yesterday’s newsletter? It’s total-tea worth the read.
