Try driving around Power and Light during an event, and you’ll find navigation can get tricky at best. The vehicular vexation is only amplified when big projects cause road restrictions and closures — such is the case with two projects a block apart along W. Truman Road.

On his way down there, Editor Travis was confounded by a sudden closure on Wyandotte Street north of Truman as a part of ongoing construction. That’s why we’re giving you an update on these two projects — 1400KC + Three Light — and what you can expect for traffic driving into 2022.

Crews broke ground on this 18-story skyline changer early 2020 with completion slated for 2022. Those projections are still on track — the KC Business Journal reports sublease will begin in April, and the building website says occupancy will become available in the third quarter of the year.

Kansas City’s parcel viewer map shows there are open + active traffic control permits for construction on Baltimore Street and 14th Street, meaning those roads are subject to closures until the permits’ end dates — many of which are April 30.

It’s hard not to notice the construction for Cordish Co.’s newest 26-story project between Main Street and Walnut Street — especially with its crane + barriers reducing Truman Road to one lane. Leaders broke ground on this $140 million project last October. With a finish date slated for September 2023, this project is just getting off the ground.

KC has the whole block + Main and Walnut highlighted as an Active Traffic Control zone.

You can check on these projects + others that interest you by using this map tool. Just select the “Projects” dropdown menu and activate your desired layers, including traffic control projects, capital projects, and street resurfacing.

Pro Tip: The map does not update every time a change happens on one of these roads. It will simply tell you if there is a project in the works, which may affect roads.
